Hotels do the same thing-advertise a nightly rate, then when you get to check
Out there is occupancy tax, maybe a resort fee and a fee for our third child. Sometimes you show up and there is an additional parking fee, or you're forced to use valet (in large metros). I don't really view Airbnb/vrbos primarily advantage as cost-we pick Airbnb when we want more room to spread out, or are traveling with another family and are going to be in one place for more than a couple days. Space plus ability cooking our own meals is usually easier to find at an Airbnb than a hotel. If we're moving round a lot on vacation, usually a hotel is cheaper for one or two nights.
