Also had a tail gunner in my Ward as well. Same. Would not talk about the experience. Too many friends lost. Too much pain and not knowing from day to day if it would be your last. I always got the impression they understood they were fortunate to make it out alive.

When people talk about the greatest generation, that description for the men and women that sacrificed during World War II is accurate and unfortunately not very well understood by recent generations.
