KY is able to close the deal because of his NBA experience and, it seems, his ability to connect with recruits. He still has to close these deals, and he's doing it on a scale we've never seen at BYU before.

Yep. They all brought in key recruits. Dunson (Crawford & Mag), Burgess (Keita), Fanning (Catchings).

I think the spike in recruiting is more about funding, but KY is clearly no slouch as a first year HC.
