When I was an engineer at Intel, our "goals" were determined by the finance guys
They would come up with seemingly arbitrary financial goals, which basically forced us to constantly do more with less. We would have to bust our butts, working 80-hour weeks to find ways to make it happen, while they had cushy 9-5 hours with a long lunch. Then after the engineers made it happen, the finance guys would give themselves all sorts of awards for reaching their "goals". Good times.
