mess at the router, and some other device I couldn't identify. I got a little tool off Amazon and was able to easily trace the ports in each room to the corresponding cable in the basement. There are like 20 of them, and I just needed to identify a couple, one specifically so I could set up another wifi router in a different part of the house from that Ethernet port. Anyway this tool works great, if that can help in your situation.
