Reminds me of the story of the gentleman who would visit his wife

everyday in an assisted living center. She was suffering from dementia and usually didn’t remember who he was. One day one of the nurses asked why he visited her everyday since she very rarely even knew who he was. His response was, “But I remember who she is.”
