I would put it a different way
I think Etienne is a project, and I think it will take a particular style of coaching to make that project work.
The reason I’m semi-optimistic Woods’ style will work is that Etienne looks scared and passive when he plays. But it’s easy to see how he could be good if he learned to be aggressive and play mean.
Funk’s style was never going to bring that out of him.
