Zach is a talented football player and he was both dealt a bad hand and did not play particularly well and that's a bad combination. But it's not like every other QB to go to the Jets for the last three decades has done anything noteworthy either. Zach has been playing behind an O-line that hall of fame QB Aaron Rodgers lasted all of 5 mins behind before taking a season ending hit, but nobody seems to talk about that.
I've watched a handful of his games and his receivers drop a lot of passes they should catch, his O-line gives him way less time than they should, he's had to change his throwing motion to be more abrupt and off his back foot just to stay alive (again see Aaron Rodgers), and the front office continues to ignore the O-line and the offense in general on draft day. Combine that situation with a NY fanbase with completely unreasonable expectations and it's just not a place where a QB will be able to succeed.
The list of promising QB draft picks over the last 20 years that tanked at the Jets is a long one (some of them went on to mildly successful careers elsewhere or hung around as backups). Just look at this list:
2003 - Brooks Bollinger (6th round, 2-7 as a starter with Jets, bounced around as backup with Vikings/Cowboys)
2006 - Kellen Clemens (2nd round, 4-5 as a starter with Jets, backup with Rams/Chargers)
2008 Erik Ainge (5th round, DNP)
2009 - Mark Sanchez (1st round, 5th overall, the only bright spot on this list as he took the Jets to two playoff seasons with post-season wins in each, was then dumped after injuries and an 8-8 season)
2013 - Geno Smith (2nd round, 12-18 as a starter for the Jets, 17-15 with Seahawks)
2018 - Sam Darnold (3rd overall pick, 13-25 as a starter for the Jets).
2021 - Zach Wilson (11-20 as a starter for the Jets)
Honestly, look at that list of QBs that were all busts at the Jets, besides Sanchez. It's hard to say ZW belongs on any list of biggest busts in NFL history when he's arguably not even the biggest bust on this list (Darnold played no better than ZW).
