In one of his pressers before the benching, Robert Saleh was asked about what was different about playing in the red zone that could be causing trouble and Saleh mentioned that everything gets sped up and you have to make decisions faster.

After Zach was benched and Saleh was asked about it he said Zach had lots of strengths but pegged recognizing fronts and coverages as a weakness. Film analyst Andrew Fialkow described Zach as best when his first read is open or in the scramble drill but he takes a while to adjust to his second read let alone third.

No doubt Zach has baggage now. Jets fans really hate when their players turn into Geno Smith so they're going to label him a bust at every turn. On a team like the Jets (and maybe the NFL in general) the line just can't give him enough time for getting through the second read.

I really don't think all hope is lost for Zach. The Jets may be the worst team at developing QBs and lots of GMs know it. Zach can spend some more time in the league and learn. If Tua was able to find a Mike McDaniel and Russell Wilson looked like a different player under a different coach there's a good situation for Zach too.
