clearly did this to themselves. Yormark scored a good TV contract at the right time…This proved to be the only real move he needed to make to destroy the PAC.
The PAC did the rest:
They added Utah and Colorado in 2010 and passed on BYU and one more school (CSU) to get to a safer 14 schools.
The PAC declined admission to UT and Oklahoma because they didn’t want to also take Tech and OkSt. This is the biggest blunder of all time in conference alignment. This would have kept USC and UCLA in place and solidified the PAC as a top 3 conference, closely rivaling the SEC. It would have also opened up the PAC to pick off some ACC or SEC teams over the years.
They hired Larry Scott and he started the PAC network.
They hired George Killaconference who proved to be equally incompetent.
They let the Big 12 survive UT and OU leaving. They should have added teams and taken out the Big 12.
Then the PAC declined a similar dollar amount ($30mil/school) to the Big 12 because they thought the deserved $50 mil.
Brett Yormark just sat back and welcomed good programs asking for admission. He hardly needed to aggressively pursue them.
