La Jolla is very pricey. It will be tough finding a budget friendly place.
My sister and her husband lived in La Jolla for a bit. They moved to Las Vegas because La Jolla was too expensive. She’s an attorney and he’s a radiologist.

yes to all, most hotels are at $300 a night. trying to find anything

The last time I was in SD was 2021. There were airBnBs for <$140/night all in.

Get a tent and stay at the Dolly Parton beach campsite in Oceanside.
