This holding was at least as bad as the call on Pay that negated the Miles Davis TD.
I don’t know the other play you are referring to so I can’t compare the two. But my guess is that I would disagree with you. But, I can’t say for sure. Just my guess. I bet I could see a difference in the two plays.
With regards to “this” holding … a couple things I saw … it was a play action and the defender bites on it (follows the RB). The offensive player was in excellent position to sell the play action. Had the offensive player not followed the RB, but instead all his momentum went to the QB, it likely would have been a hold. But, he didn’t.
There is a philosophy in officiating that of advantage/disadvantage. In this case, no player gained an advantage and no player was at a disadvantage. The offensive player was in excellent position for the play action. The defender bit on the play action. The QB released the ball quickly. The defender was never going to get close to the QB. A penalty would have given the defense an advantage when they didn’t do anything to earn it or deserve it and the offensive player would have been penalized when he basically had excellent positioning for the play action and there is no video evidence of the holding, just assumptions.
