I will say this, I was not the biggest BYU fan. I was indifferent to anything
outside the SEC/south. My spouse was a big fan though, and I ended up getting into BYU fandom over time. I always would cheer for BYU, but never cared much about any of the other Utah schools. That has changed over the years through certain instances. One of the things that really pushed me that direction was when we would visit my in-laws in Utah, for some reason yewts always rear their ugly head.

My spouse would wear a BYU shirt or Y hat, and get cat called. It was almost like every time we got onto an airplane, some sorry yewt could not refrain from saying some smart yewt comment as we were heading to our row. It happened everywhere, at dinner in SLC, Skiing, on a bus, and I even got cat-called while running the Freedom Run 10k with my spouse while wearing a BYU shirt. I never saw BYU people cat-calling yewts.

It all culminated when my sister in law took their kids and husband to a BYU vs yewtah game back in 2006. She has a mixed race child, and the foul things that were catcalled to her walking with her kids, including things such as Joseph Smith would not approve (of her being a white mother of a mixed race child, etc). By the time she met up with the family she was in tears and they ended up leaving. That experience moved the needle more than anything. Oh sure, it is the vocal minority they always say. Interesting you never see the silent majority ever saying anything to the minority.

And nothing has changed. We were catcalled on a flight literally just last week when we left Utah. Minding our own business walking to our seat, my spouse has on a BYU hat, a yewt leans into the aisle kind of blocking our walkway and says, "You know that hat is a question right?" Stopping in the aisle, and not understanding what he was meaning, my spouse said "what?" The man replied: "The Y is on the hat because it is a question, as in, 'Y (why) have I chosen to support this school" My spouse looked at him and said "ha ha, good one. Have a good flight".

It is truly bizarre that outside of Utah, no one cares (about yewts or BYU). Inside Utah, and/or on flights to Utah, it is consistent cat-calls......and has been for decades. The fact that they are so pre-occupied with BYU fans is truly bizarre. There is no better evidence than CB. How many BYU fans are on any of the yewt boards?

I feel sorry for them. They are losers in life that will have to get over this hurdle before they can truly be happy.
