The problem is that because there are people who will pass wrecklessly you are

Putting the rest of the freeway in danger. They want to get around the blockage so they will pass on the right, often times over multiple lanes to get around slow movers. When they do this they put everyone in those lanes at risk. I know that's not technically "your fault" because they have agency, but why contribute to the problem? If you are moving the same speed as lanes to the right then just get in that lane.
