I could see the NCAA existing in its current format for the Olympic sports other than basketball. I see both football and basketball programs forming some type of semi pro amateur league (like BYU’s men soccer is in). There will be some type of split. I could see Congress passing legislation setting limits for the Olympic sports but allowing certain exemptions for basketball and football.
What I would love to see in football is a 64 team semi pro league comprised of four 16 team conferences based on geography with two 8 team divisions. Teams would play 7 division games, 2 conference non-division games, and 3 non-conference games (1 team from each of the other 3 conferences). The conference championship game could act as a defacto playoff game. The 64 team league could operate like many of the European soccer leagues do by relegating the bottom team from each division every 5 years to the mid major conferences and pulling up the top teams from the mid majors.
