The seeding is weird. Virginia is ranked higher than BYU in most metrics, so BYU is "technically" the better team; but it would be an upset if BYU advanced.
Virginia is ranked No. 5 in TopDrawer rankings (BYU is 21):

Virginia is ranked No. 12 in the Coaches poll (BYU is 17):

If anything, the seedings should be reversed. But playing the No. 5 team in the Country in the first round doesn't seem like a terrific draw.
More seeding mysteries--how does Penn State (No. 4 in the coaches poll) win the Big10 and not get a seed? I almost wonder if there was some huge mix-up in the seedings. It doesn't make any sense. As for BYU's draw, all the teams that make the tournament are good, but Virginia may be Final-Four good. That's a very tough first-round game.
Seeds 13, 14, and 15 all have better first-round draws. If BYU can get past Virginia--they would likely face West Virginia--ranked No. 4 (media) and No. 5 (coaches). But BYU does avoid Florida St and North Carolina (the 2 teams that appear to be the front-runners for the crown).
