The money is just way different
Kyle Whittingham makes $4.1M. Kalani Sitake supposedly makes somewhere around $1.5M.
Morgan Scalley (Utah DC) made $1.1M (prior to his pay cut), which is closer to BYU HC money than coordinator money at BYU.
Even getting to WR coaches, Guy Holliday made $430k in 2019. BYU doesn't report salary, but they hired Fesi away from Weber, where he was making $37k. I'm guessing his salary didn't increase 10x.
Money isn't the only thing in play, but if it comes down to money for a coaching hire, Utah will win every time. That's just the reality of P5 vs Independent

Since he was going to get $0 at BYU with Sitaki or at UVA with Bronco, technically leaving was to seek more $'s 🙂
