Also, the article just compares four plastic surgeons in NYC per 100,000 people to six surgeons per 100,000 people in SLC. But there‘s no question that plastic surgeons make more in NYC than SLC. So assuming the cost of surgery isn’t THAT much cheaper in SLC, the surgeons in NYC must be having more surgeries than surgeons in SLC.
Also, as already pointed out, the article does not say anything about number of plastic surgeries—let alone breast surgeries. So even if surgeons in SLC were doing as many surgeries as surgeons in big markets—which they are not—not all plastic surgeries are equal or suggest vanity, or suggest equal levels of vanity. More of the plastic surgeries in SLC are the non-vane ones than plastic surgeries in other places.
