1. BYU’s camps are inexpensive compared to most others. If you want your kid to get college looks, you’re going to spend a lot of money on showcases, campus visits, camps, etc. Going to BYU’s won’t break the bank.

2. BYU runs several different camps. Their youth summer camps are an onslaught of young kids without much face time (but you do get some). But they also run prospect camps and some position specific camps that have much better exposure. If your kid throws 84 as a freshman, he will get plenty of attention.

3. If you fill out the recruiting form that PJMort posted, the coaches can make contact, and see your son play at big showcases.

4. Your sons travel ball coach has a point to some degree, some camps are just moneymakers for the program, and I’m sure that BYU’s camps are as well to a degree. But on the other hand, my 14 year old freshman is on a first name basis purely from those camps. Don’t think that in and of itself means much, but they know who he is. Next few years will be interesting.
