Once all of Crowton's recruits were gone from the program (starting with the 2010 season) and he had to rely on his own recruiting he found it hard to do unless we played a ridiculously soft schedule (like in 2011).
After several disappointing seasons of 8 wins and losing bowl games he then lowered his standard by trying to tell us that winning 8 games every year and getting a bowl invite was really hard to do.
If we were in the PAC 12, Big 12, SEC, etc I'd agree with him but when you schedule 6 easy wins a year and with more than 40 bowl games in existence (requires 80 teams to fill) which frequently require them to invite teams with losing records just to fill their slots, it doesn't appear as tough as he was trying to lower the bar to.
His attempt to lower the standard by claiming that 8 wins, losing your lower tier bowl game and losing to your rival every year is a successful year wasn't floating.
