You can't make the argument that they have all their recruited guys playing for them, and have experience on their side at the same time. Because year one, they would be playing with all their true freshman recruits, year two true soph and redshirt freshman. Those would be the only guys they have recruited, and while I am too lazy to look and see who and what year was getting all the production, I would bet that the majority of yards and production aren't coming from True Soph / Freshman for those teams. As for coming from inside the program....
Brian Wright of Toledo came from FAU.
Buster Faulkner came from Middle Tennessee to Arkansas State.
Matt Kubik went from OC at Stephen F. Austin to OC at ULM.
None of those guys were built up in the program. Holdouts from previous staffs... I don't know.
We also don't know how many injuries were sustained through the course of the season. But from the way things started out, without all the injuries to the RB / QB, would we have been a top 50 offense? I don't think so.... but... maybe???
The point of my post isn't to say Detmer isn't good. I was merely pointing out that there are a few guys out there, making less money than we can afford to pay at small schools. Where they came in, and within a few years took a small program to offensive success, and perhaps we can afford one of these guys, or someone like him. With clear, defined success at the D1 level, and someone we can afford.
