- Week 2 – BYU (1-0) vs #10 LSU (0-0) (N) – Sat, Sept 2, 5:00pm EST– NRG Stadium, Houston, TX – ABC
o LSU in classic white/yellow combo…BYU trots out in royals. Beautiful!
o Kind of a 2009 OU type game. D is tough. Troy Warner puts his stamp on the 2017 early with pick 6 on LSU’s second drive. RB’s really struggle but Dye and Hall have two big catches out of the backfield. Play of game is jump ball catch in endzone by Bushman that he snags for a TD right before half time to give BYU a 14-7 lead.
o In the 3rd Tolutao barrels in for 4 yard TD run after a long Shumway grab where he absolutely juked the LSU corner on his backside. (Play makes SCTop10) Takitaki records 4 sacks in his return and absolutely causes panic in the heart of new LSU QB. BYU’s defense forces two potential TD drives to turn into FG-only and the last-ditch effort by the LSU offense to win the game falls short when Hanneman breaks up a pass over the middle and Fred Warner causes the LSU QB to speed up his progression and throw the ball into the grass on 4th and short from midfield to end the game.
o BYU wins 21-13 and jumps into the top 15 just in time to face rival Utah.
o Player of the game – Troy Warner, 4 PBU’s, 4 tackles, 1 INT, 1 TD
