If you expect the phone to be a super-customizable mini computer, then Android is certainly winning on that front.
If all you do with the phone is text, listen to music, check email/calendar, make calls and play occasional games (my situation), an iPhone is perfectly good. And it's still thinner, smaller, and has the widest variety of apps. The interface is old, but I don't really need more in a phone at the moment. I have a laptop for that.
