In September McMurphy projected BYU to the Pop Tarts Bowl. Most of us were thrilled at that time. Given preseason expectations, and how fun the pop tarts bowl is, it was a really cool projection!
I asked "At what point does that stop being incredible because BYU was close to a playoff spot? When do expectations shift to playoff?"
Most responses said that they'd be happy with a post-Christmas bowl. Just going to a bowl seemed to please many people. Many said that don't plan on shifting expectations at all, just happy to see the team succeeding and exceeding original expectations.
But, seeing the anger and frustration this week, it seems like expectations shifted at some point this season. So, when did they shift? Many seem like they would be disappointed in BYU went to an Alamo or Pop Tarts bowl now.
So, my question is this: when did the expectations shift? Was it at 5-0? 7-0? 9-0?
