There were several things upsetting to me:
1. Clock management - again.
2. Fade route at the end of Q2.
3. Play calls at the end of the game.
But BY FAR the most upsetting thing to me was our overall game plan.
I don't understand why we wanted so desperately to shorten the game. The game was tied 10-10 and we decided to eat as much clock as possible - as if we were hoping to just have a chance at the end of the game. When our 3rd quarter 10 1/2 minute drive ended in a field goal, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that the game would go down to the wire. At that point, the game was basically a coin-flip that would come down to one lucky bounce for either team. And yeah - Kansas got that lucky bounce on a QB punt.
We did that to ourselves. And it made no sense.
All year long, we have been most productive when we play with attacking tempo. And with few exceptions, our defense has played well enough to get us the win. So for the life of me, I don't understand our mentality of trying to eek out a win against a 90th ranked defense.
We should have won that game 34-20. And we would've if we had played OUR game with confidence and aggression. Shame on ARod for a terrible gameplan. (And no - I'm not calling for him to get fired. That's silly. But he dang well better learn from this UGLY game.)
