“Momentum” is made up. People keep worrying about “lost our momentum” now have “no momentum going into ASU” or even
“Momentum going the wrong way”.

It’s not real.
You’re using a principle of physics to try to describe something that is psychological and it just isn’t a good fit.*

Psychologically we were complacent BEFORE we lost. Players described lack of effort and intensity in practice at the greatest extent of our win streak. If momentum were based on stringing together wins (as the word would imply) and it actually worked the way most are worrying, we would have been at our greatest momentum right when we were actually practicing and performing at our worst.

No. It’s not momentum.

And whatever it is, it’s probably not made worse by this one loss. It’s probably made better.

Does anyone think the team is being lazy in practice this week? Anyone think they’re going to have the same flat week of preparation we heard about happening last week?

That happens to teams who have given up on the season, sure. Not going to happen to a team no longer in independence, who have control of their own destiny to the CCG and CFP.
They’re going to come out fired up for a game against a probably-favored ASU team.

If “momentum” means anything in CFB, it only describes a psychological state. And that can change in a moment. In a single play.

If it’s changed this week, it’s changed for the better.

So let’s not wring our hands over “no momentum”.

We’re in control of our destiny. We have the team to beat ASU. Having take. I think this loss to Kansas makes us more likely to beat ASU than we would have been with a win. That’s not a loss of momentum.

We’re in as good a place at the end of a season as we’ve ever been since ‘84. Win and no one can send us to a lesser bowl to keep us away from a shot at upsetting the big dogs.

(* Physically, it takes as much energy to stop momentum as it did to start it. And twice as much to change it to equal in the opposite direction. 9 games wouldn’t reverse in one.)
