I picked this category because this post is about the Utes, but it isn’t Ute Smack.
I have a daughter that graduated from the U, a son (die hard BYU fan) currently going to the U for a nursing degree, and a son-in-law, whom I totally admire, who is a die hard Ute fan.
Do I hope they lose sometimes, yes.
Are some of their fans horrible, yes.
Are some of their fans really just BYU haters disguised as Ute fans, absolutely.
Do I hate the term “yewts” that is used on this board, yes.
I grew up through the 80’s and early 90’s in Utah so I was an arrogant BYU fan kid who only had to deal with one Scott Mitchell Ute win. I had it pretty good. One of my friends grew up a Ute fan and constantly endured rude stuck up BYU fans who teased him incessantly. Kids are ignorant sometimes, I wish I was nicer to my Ute friends back then.
One of my sons has a little less self esteem so he attaches some of his happiness to BYU wins. He experienced (endured?) the rude Ute fans growing up who teased him incessantly for being a BYU fan. He now absolutely hates the Utes and 99.99% of their fans (the .01% being his brother-in-law). He attaches some of his happiness to Utah losing.
I wish a lot of the vitriol didn’t exist.
I wish Urban Meyer never coached the Utes. He brought a new level of animosity by labeling BYU as TDS and making the Ute players call BYU that.
There is more I could say but the jist of it is that it is just a game. But of course it is more fun to win.
Go Cougs!
Don’t hate.
