Is idling a car for a prolonged period bad?
I have not thought of it much but I wanted to use my car’s inverter to plug in a tv and watch the BYU game during trunk or treat. I would leave it running for a few hours. Any concern doing this aside from burning some fuel?

Nope. You can rev the engine every once in a while if it makes you feel better

Only if doing it in a place where it is illegal and you get caught.

Just to note: it is considered illegal in Utah

Are there laws about running a generator too? At least cars have emission controls.

Over-heating would be the #1 concern. I've left cars idling for two hours or more a lot of times over the years for

No, people do it in Alaska in winter all the time

It's typically associated with shortened oil life. IOW if you do a lot of idling you should change your oil more
