This is probably more an offseason topic, but Jim McMahon piqued my interest
So as a Catholic kid born in New Jersey he’d have no connection to BYU.
He moved to San Jose California at age 3 and is there till he’s 16. Again, probably hear about BYU and LDS people in that area, but not often.
So he moves to Roy Utah in 1975. Now you’re in the orbit for sure, and BYU did make the Fiesta Bowl in 1974, but had sucked for at least 10 years before that.
Did McMahon’s parents plan to try and get Jim into BYU’s fancy new passing offense by moving him to Utah or was it all just chance?
