I appreciate the guy's contributions and I hope he comes back next year w realistic plans to be our 6th or 7th man, a vital piece off the bench. If he's our starting PG (i.e. we fail to either retain Egor or bring in an elite PG), we probably don't make a big run next year.
Setting aside this year's lackluster performance, including almost managing to single-handedly lose the Wisky game and air-balling everything against Bama (essentially: Playing back to back fail games in the two biggest games of our last two seasons) -
As a soph he had Aly Khalifa running the half court offense half the time. Dallin had 5.1 APG, Aly had 4.0. The two of them were complementary pieces at the times that they were on the floor together. Not really the case with Dallin and another actual PG. Not great at creating his own shot, not elite at knocking down open threes, a mediocre / subpar FT shooter, bad at finishing at the rim. His AST/TO ratio won't do much for us if he hasn't made a leap on those other fronts, which he should have by now if he was going to.
Even last year there were several glimpses of why he wasn't the guy. His last second attempt to drive and score in the loss at Utah - should have kicked to the wide open Richie for a game winning 3 pt attempt, instead sent up a flailing miss. Very reminiscent of what he did at the end of the Wisky game on our last possession, a minute after making a pass that no veteran PG should ever make that could have cost us the game and the Sweet 16 if they didn't have such a terrible call for their last possession.
Very aware that a lot of people won't love this post, but I don't think it's a good sign for us if DH is our starting PG next year, and I don't think he's on par with the Richie-AJ-Keita core we are most certain to feature.
But I appreciate the guy's contributions and hope he'll have a realistic view of his proper rotation role.
