In the last 10 years, BYU has made it to the post season 3 times and lost all three first round games (you could argue that they were likely to win a couple of games in 2020 had the tournament not be cancelled), not exactly what you would call an NCAA tournament juggernaut.
Kevin Young does a phenomenal job recruiting/retaining guys after Mark Pope left. He retains two players (Richie and Dallin) that had opportunities to play at some of the top schools in the country, signs the highest rated recruit BYU has ever had (Demin) who is projected to be a lottery pick and get another recruit to flip from the last year's runner-up and a top 25 recruit. For next year's class he signs the number 1 and a top 25 recruit. And people on here are already worrying about if the roster in this year and coming years is not built to make a deep run in the tournament.
Re expectations:
