Hans Olsen, last Friday, was on his show (1280) with Alema Harrington and Coach McBride (former UofU FB coach) talking college football as they do every week. They all wondered how much high school football coaches receive. Later that day I was working out and one of the individuals that usually is there was a former local high school coach. He's now an admin in the district. He said new HS coaches receive $4,500 for the season. After 15 years they receive $9,500.
I was a bit shocked. He told me that he once calculated all the hours he put into it one year and it figured that he was being paid $0.07/hour.
Olsen and company were commenting on how some schools have such great coaches, while other have mediocre individuals, and they mentioned that unless you get a coach that is passionate and money is not their motivator, then you probably will have crappy coaches that don't care as much. Both Olsen and Harrington have kids in programs and move them to schools where they have a more ideal coach if the kid wants to pursue a path to attempt to make it to college ball.
