He spurned BYU and chose Utah and was a huge jerk about it.
He had one amazing season in 2008--can't take that away.
He was a tool--an absolute tool--in the hands of his admin to attempt to subjugate his own alma mater into irrelevance when they went to Pac and BYU went Indy.
He was never nice or funny or complimentary. He never acknowledge the brotherly love side of the rivalry. He often acted like BYU was too small to be rival.
He knocked on the door of good seasons in the Pac, but never won the rose bowl.
He has been smug in victory and bitter in defeat.
He horribly mismanaged a decently-talented QB in Rising
He followed up with more QB room and team mismanagement
His team has had an epic fall, including shedding players and recruits
He'll have to go out with his worst, most embarrassing season
He won't have the consolation from being a friendly, cooperative team-player kind of coach
Most of all (and for me, best of all): he loses his last two games to his hated rival. Its chiasmus and karmic to watch him suffer defeat by the same school that gave him a career and the school he hoped to destroy.
He'll have to sit around with this the rest of his life. No redemption likely.
