He said that agents are actively telling their high NFL draft picks NOT to play in the CFP games. They are showing them statistics of injuries % chance increase by adding potentially 4 additional games (1st round through Championship Game) at the end of a season when your body is already beat up. They are locked in for NFL careers and to stay focused on that for their future and their family and kids future.
The major programs are trying to navigate this right now and most are looking to either have to secure separate NIL deals just for the CFP bowl games and/or buy massive insurance policies. The problem is these insurance policies are like $500K+ per player.
The top programs are thinking the Bowls (Fiesta, Rose, Sugar, Peach) should secure the NIL and insurance policies if they want the star players to play. The bowl are saying- these are CFP games, the CFP should be paying for it. The CFP is saying - these are the responsibility of the schools if they want to play and win. So it’s a circular issue.
This isn’t going to be figured out or fixed this season but it is going to become a bigger and bigger issue in the extended playoffs over the next 5 years.
