By rule, that was very much not a blind side block
For those that are curious, the blind side block personal foul call was very much an error by the officials. To be blind side, Rule 2, Section 3, Article 7 requires that the contact be initiated from outside the opponent's field of vision or be a block in such a way that the opponent cannot reasonably defend themselves. The opponent easily saw the blocker in advance of the hit and also not only had a chance to defend himself but actually did defend himself. That particular call will end up in the game report for the officials, and the referee who threw the flag will get a specific criticism for it, as well as the crew chief for not correcting the call. Unfortunate.
