Curse you BYU ticket office!!
To give a bit of background, my brother and I split season tickets for BYU basketball. He buys his allotment of 4 tickets from the ticket office, I pay him my share of the money (for 2 tickets), and he transfers them to me.

Last season, there were a few games I was unable to make it to and I was able to list them on SeatGeek through the BYU Ticket website. Made it easy to resell the tickets and recoup some of the cost I paid for the tickets (and allow the seats to not sit empty).

This year, my brother transferred the tickets to me. I knew I was unable to go to the exhibition game in a couple weeks, so I decided to try and list them for resale (I'm sure I wouldn't get much, but a few bucks is better than nothing). To my surprise, they were flagged with a message saying "these tickets are unavailable to be resold on SeatGeek". Out of curiousity I checked and it turns out that every single ticket says the same thing. This was especially surprising because when I asked my brother stated he was able to list his tickets just fine.

So I called the ticket office and mentioned the problem I was having. After looking into things briefly, they explained to me that because my brother was the one that purchased the tickets from the ticket office and not me, he is the only person who is authorized to resale the tickets. Meaning that if I want to sell any of my tickets to any of the games this year I have to transfer the tickets back to him and let him take care of selling the tickets for me. As it currently stands, because I didn't purchase the tickets directly (and instead payed my brother who purchased them), as long as the tickets are in my account they have "no cash value" and can't be resold to anybody. They said this was due to some sort of "software update" in their system and that there is nothing they can do about it.

Frankly, I'm not sure what purpose this serves. In a year where single game tickets are going to be very hard to come by, it would seem as though BYU would want to make it easier for people to list their tickets for resale. But I guess I will have to just resort to posting tickets here, KSL, etc. (which will make it harder to sell, but would avoid SeetGeek fees I guess) or go through some sort of convoluted process of transferring tickets back to my brother, having him sell them, and then sending the money back to me once he gets paid for the sale (which then becomes a hassle for him that is unfair to put on him).
