Beginning back in early August, I tried Liquid IV for the 1st time. I was also on a daily vitamin at the time - I began developing peripheral neuropathy, muscle aches, pallesthesia (a buzzing sensation), muscle twitching, and vertigo. Due to the timing of developing these issues, I looked toward the ingredients of Liquid IV, and one of the things that came up was B6 (or pyridoxine). It wasn't a wildly high amount, about 1.93mg per packet (110% DV). The daily vitamin I was taking was only around 1.8mg. Considering many supplements go over the daily value, it didn't seem too bad. I brought up the symptoms with my PCP, who initiated the neuropathy workup, which included a serum B6. The serum B6 came back 5x the maximum normal. A few weeks later, it has come down to around 2x the maximum normal (elimination half-life is around 15-20 days, which makes sense), and my symptoms are getting better, but it is slow.

I figure that I was either having a significant unaccounted for dietary intake of B6, I struggle to use/eliminate it, or I have a low tolerance level of it. The risk of toxicity, at least as far as the literature is concerned, comes at a much higher daily intake than I was at. So, I figure that something else is going on where I am either retaining a lot of B6 or am consuming much more than I thought. Anyway, prior to these lab results, the recommendation was to complete an MRI to check for demyelination and to do an EMG. I will probably still do both of those, but right now it is seeming that B6 is to blame.

So, be careful of how you supplement. Obviously most people can use Liquid IV and even take a daily vitamin without issue, but in my case, I guess I can't. More isn't always better...
