Before everyone gets mad, kudos to Kingston for his unlikely TD and for his great effort. One of the most exciting plays if not THE most exciting play of the game.
Here’s my concern. If the ball had bounced KState’s way, it would most likely have resulted in a Wildcat TD. I do feel that this punt return, although lots of fun, was rather lucky.
There have been at least three times now where an opponent booms a punt. It surprises Kingston. He runs backwards trying to make an over-the-shoulder catch and drops the ball.
Those with coaching experience, what would you tell him? Just let it go on an unexpected booming punt? Back up more to receive punts? I’m afraid that down the road one of these fumbles/bobbles is going to cost us a game.
