When Retzlaff threw that, he knew Kody was being covered tightly but trusted his guy to jump up and attack the ball. It was a 50/50 ball.

Unfortunately it was under thrown, but Kody didn't adjust his pace to let the ball catch up to him so he could attack it. He just kept running and hoped the ball would fall into his hands.

We've seen those types of balls go to Chase Roberts numerous times this season...the dude bodies up defenders, adjusts his routes/pace, and attacks the ball and somehow hangs onto it even with the DB swatting at him. If he can't get it, he definitely doesn't let the DB hang onto it.

It's situations like that that show why Epps can only be thrown to when he's wide open, while Roberts can be trusted with 50/50 balls. I'd also add that Lassiter goes after those 50/50 balls too.

So Retzlaff definitely gets some of the blame for under throwing the ball, but it was still very catchable and he trusted his guy to go after it...and he didn't. So Epps definitely shares the blame in that pick

ETA: Didn't expect this to hit the front page so I just want to clarify the point of my post isn't to talk down on Kody Epps. I love that guy and think he's a great contributor. That being said, he really excels at the short/intermediate crossing routes. The 50/50 down field jump balls are not his strong suit. Chase Roberts, Darius Lassiter, and Jojo Phillips are guys who have the physical traits and play style that you can trust with those 50/50 balls (wouldn't even be 50/50 if it was thrown properly obviously). If you swapped any of those 3 guys for Kody in this situation, there's no way that ball gets intercepted and there's a chance they actually catch it. That's my point.
