Where DO I stand on Bronco and staff? Surprising?

I know, I know, Most of you think I am firmly entrenched in the " I HATE Bronco!" camp.

Those of you who do simply haven't paid close enough attention to what I've posted and simply believed what other CB's have "said", I posted, that and getting the Carolina coug{ars} all mixed up.

That same group still thinks I'm related to KWhit, which I am not and have stated and had those who ARE related to me or DO know me state as well, this group is much like YEWT fans who really aren't Yewt fans, they just hate BYU because...

Last season and for most if not ALL of his tenure, I have stated that I like what BM has done at BYU,but that I haven't been OVERLY impressed.

There have been MANY coaching blunders and mistakes that are really simplistic in nature and at the D1 level UNACCEPTABLE!

Not all of them by BM, but his staff and "their" mistakes, lie ultimately on "his" shoulders.

I, up until last year, stated that I think BM is an average coach , "WITH ROOM TO GROW AS A YOUNG AND INEXPERIENCED COACH".

After this season, BM can no longer still carry the "inexperienced" flag, much like Crowton who waived it constantly in regards to his players.
At some point, you are no longer "INEXPERIENCED". For me THAT point is this season.

Meaning he has this season.

With that in mind I have to temper my judgment.

THIS is the first time he has faced a true QB change/development situation. He inherited TWO NFL QB's prior.

Last year I asked where were his marquee wins that demonstrated that he is an above average coach?

To me taht would mean beating a team on the road handily that he should
Beating a team with the same or greater talent than BYU, when an under dog or a "pick'em".

Beating that same team WITH an experienced coach at teh helm as well. IOW if BM whoops up on a talented team , but is being coached by a first year coach or a coach who is getting fired, that means nothing to me.

MANY on CB state 10-2 as the reason BM is a GREAT coach.
I say whoopdy FREAKING DO!

IMO ANY average coach with BM's schedule and BYU's talent would have roughly the same record.

Seriously who couldn't beat UNM, WYO, Northern ILLINOIS, Utah State, etc, with the teams that have been here?
That's right, BAD coaches couldn't, he isn't a BAD coach.

BUT we beat TCU and UTAH?

UTAH a rival... lots of crazy stuff happens.

ANY objective person would say that UTAH has outplayed BYU in BM's tenure. Even in a few of BYU's wins. We needed miracles to win those games, it was NOT great coaching that won IMO.

Getting BLOWN OUT by ANYONE with BYU's talent is ridiculous IMO. We have never been in a game that the mismatch in talent and inexperienced prior to kick off met an expectation that equaled the final score of a BLOWOUT. IMO that reflects coaching.

So up unitl the end of last year , my feelings were that BM is average.

THEN BYU beat AFA and Oregon STATE and I , HERE, on CB, stated that I believe that THOSE wins were the kinds of wins that differentiated a GOOD coach from a GREAT coach and proclaimed him to be the latter.

THEN I found out that BM who had been much criticized by MANY for his BOWL prep, copied UTAH's bowl prep.

Now he deserves credit for that, but perhaps OSU, simply was expecting old BYU bowl prep and not the one they got?

It WAS WINDY and we played man and pressed, How many times prior or since have we done that?

SO then I watch us beat a bad Washington team again. Again BARELY winning. This time we should have won by 4 TD's.

Then the AFA debacle . Coaching issues ALL over BOTH of those game.

So where do I sit now on BM as a coach, Is he simply average after all with two or three out of 50 wins being GREAT?

Ahh, I must remind myself , "He has this year", before he is no longer inexperienced, THUS!
He is allowed to make mistakes and I will reserve final judgment until after the season, but will critique along the way.

Isn't that fair?
