I agree with your opinion. But for fun I'll argue the opposite:
1) With a limited roster, you are likely to draw a higher caliber type of player because you will have more NIL money to pay them, especially since Dallin Hall implied on his Y's Guys interview that BYU NIL pays all players of the same experience similar money.

2) With quality players, injuries will matter less, because players will be able to fill more than one role on the time. For example, Coach Calipari stated his comfortable going with a six-man rotation.

3) Players will have defined roles and more detailed player development right from the beginning, making them better players and leaving them less likely to leave for better opportunities elsewhere.

4) Since P5 (or whatever the number is now for basketball) programs have to honor scholarships for all 4 years, you are less likely to be forced to carry non-performing players.

5) You always will have roster flexibility to take on a potential difference-maker out of the portal.
