That's not the plain readin of his dad's post. That KY would "honor Isaac's scholarship" implies signing him as a player

Iows, it further implies that KY was straight with him in explaining that he was free to join the team as a scholarship player — BUT that he didn't see Isaac as the sorta player KY expected would flourish in the schemes he runs. (Iows, that it would be in Isaac's interests to look at other teams.)
