BYU has come to Grand Junction for a fall scrimmage against D2 CMU a few times
and lost badly each time. This year’s team is better but if you are asking could this year’s team compete against Duke, Virginia, John’s Hopkins, etc then the answer is no. BYU has some good players but not enough depth to compete at a high level. No scholarships really hurts. That being said, if they became a NCAA sanctioned team and had scholarships then things change. Similar to men’s soccer. Why BYU athletics continues to sponsor the swim, tennis, diving etc but not sports fans actually want to watch is a mystery to me. They would get 1000+ to come to lacrosse and probably 5000+ for men’s soccer.
