Even though Duke is a basketball school, they likely don’t want to shut down their football program because football is their ticket to big money.

The Big East schools make FAR less money from their TV contract than P5 schools because it doesn’t include football. Football is what funds most of the other sports in every athletic department. Duke is a super wealthy private school and could probably afford to lose the football revenue, but is that really something they would be willing to do?
