Why did Burgess leave Utah? Because Craig Smith is on track to get fired. He’s captain on a sinking ship. BYU is a good
job and it provides some stability.
I’m not sure Utah will consider Burgess for a head coaching job when Smith is done. They certainly wouldn’t though if he was still on the staff that they just fired.
The move to BYU keeps more options open.
