BackPacker Take a Hike
My Remaining Portal Wishlist after the addition of Diomande:
(Edited In Order of Priority):

1. 6'10" or taller athletic big who can play the post a lot like Fous and rebound well. Basically a replacement for Fous but preferably with a few more inches of height. Bonus points for shooting FT's well.

2. A guard who can get down hill in a jiffy and explode to the rim on offense while also having good court vision with ability to pass well. Needs to be able to defend well too and be quick and physical enough to play over screens. Also bonus points for being a good FT shooter.

3. A stretch big. Another 6'10" or taller big who can be a threat to shoot from distance off the pick'n'roll game, pass well from the perimeter, and crash boards well for rebounds.

4. A 3 and D guard who could replace Knell or Mag. Preferably a guy with the athleticism and ability to play D like Mag but spot up and shoot about as well as Knell from 3 (Yes I know Mag was pretty effective at the 3 ball at times as well). Bonus points if he can be as crafty at the rim as Mag could be at times in transition and shoot FT's well. (We may already have this guy in Diomande but it wouldn't hurt to have another dude with the same measurables and skills that are already proven at the college level.)

I know we lost 4 seniors and now Catchings to the portal with 2 incoming freshman in AJ and Stanton, so at the moment, we at least have 3 open spots to fill. If Demin goes on to NBA, that will open up a 4th spot. And if Crawford ends up in portal, that'll be 5 spots to fill. I do wonder if guys like Max Triplett, Jared McGregor, Triple Townsend will enter portal for the sake of getting more playing time at places like UVU as they age up in their college careers. If that were to happen, that's another 3 spots that would open up.

But let's say Demin does stay. Having AJ, Demin, and Richie on the team together will give BYU 3 NBA caliber guys. Certainly in AJ and Demin, and to a lesser extent, Richie. Diomande looks like he could be a wild card. But if he can elevate his game at the college level to look anything like it does in his highlight reels from Europe, he will certainly be another NBA talent BYU will have. That all would probably put BYU on the same footing as Duke with all the NBA caliber talent they're playing with right now. And well, Duke is going back to the Final Four as a big favorite to win it all, so...perhaps BYU with AJ as their centerpiece could become next year what Duke has become this year with Flagg as their centerpiece.

Staton and Mboup are going to be pretty raw and will likely need a year of strong development before they are at a level to be making major contributions. I don't expect either of them to see more than 4 to 6 minutes of action in most games, especially in once conference play heats up. However, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them making a big leap in development from high school with a full summer of conditioning and training with all the other guys under KY and staff.

Please bless this all or at least most of this to come true. In KY I trust. Amen.
