I get at least 10-15 requests a month to write a "letter" for someone.
Saying that in my professional opinion as a psychologist, they need an emotional support animal. When I explain to them to do so I would need to do a full psychological evaluation including various testing instruments, and then tell them what I charge per hour to do so, oddly nobody decides to take me up on it.

The American Psychological Association has finally started to take some action against psychologists who just write these letters at random. A couple have been reported to state boards and had licenses removed. There was one psychologist in NC who would charge 300 dollars to send a form letter in essence with her signature. She was doing hundreds a month. Never talked to the people, they just send her an email, pay her, and she sent a letter signed by a "mental health professional." Extremely lucrative I suppose.
