He knows how to make you better, and it takes time for the mental parts to catch up with the athletic parts.
He has the skill that all great coaches need, communication. He can clearly articulate what needs to happen.
What he has zero experience in, is coaching at the college level. He has never had to figure out the continuity of a college program's culture. He hasn't had to deal with non-nba caliber talent, drive, and ability. He hasn't had to teach young men how to become men who balance school, maturing, and the job of playing basketball, and sudden wealth. Sure the nba has young players, but that is their job. He can demand that they spend more time working on their game.
So what has he demonstrated to us so far? That he truly understands the game. That he is willing to teach, adapt. He didn't talk much to the refs at the beginning of the season but he sure is now. He knows how communicate the game plans and how to break down the previous game and work on improving his team's approach and execution.
I think he will be a very good coach for a very long time here.
