He was an extremely athletic/talented HS athlete that ended up back in our hometown working an hourly job with a drinking & drug problem.
He was the state football MVP for his classification, led all classifications in rushing yards, and their team were state champions. He had legitimate interest from schools like Nebraska (during their 90’s heyday) & BYU.
In basketball, he led all classifications in scoring, and was all-state. He was also all-state as a catcher on the baseball team.
His problem was that he was pretty lazy, liked to party, and had always dominated because of his physical gifts. He was 6’2”, naturally muscular, and extremely fast/agile. He had no work ethic when it came to conditioning, and he was a bonehead in the classroom.
Because of his poor grades (self-inflicted), he could not qualify for a D1 school, so he ended up at Dixie JC (mid-90’s). He didn’t even make it through fall camp before significantly injuring his shoulder (due to his lack of conditioning), and ended up quitting and going home. That was the end of his athletic career.
