There are a number of reasons why it is not considered socially acceptable. For example, people generally believe relationships should be based on love. I would have to date a lady in her 90's to hit this same age gap, and it seems hard to believe I would find interesting conversations and shared experiences that would develop a real bond between me and her.

The older I get, the younger college students look and seem. They are just barely not kids. They are immature. They haven't even fully developed mentally. They lack wisdom. If I weren't married, I'm sure I would feel they were too young to date. It wouldn't feel right. It would be difficult to connect with them on anything other than a physical basis. That seems wrong.

We can only speak in generalities, but most people in culture would be hesitant in believing that their 19 year old daughter was making a wise decision.
